Abstract:
This 1988 recording stars soprano Daniela Dess, then young and relatively unknown, but today one of the brightest stars on the international operatic scene. Her mastery of Monteverdi was one of the first things that brought her to wide attention. This was Monteverdi's last opera, premiered in 1643 (the year he died) when he was seventy-six years old. It is generally considered his masterpiece.
