Abstract:
"An album of legendary gipsy guitarist Django Reinhardt playing all along just unaccompanied guitar seems at first an impossible goal. He died ... just before the LP era, and only his last recordings [the year he died] were originally issued, posthumously, on LP form. Django is remembered most for the astonishing discs he waxed with violinist Stephane Grapelli plus Django's brother Joseph Reinhardt and Pierre "Baro" Ferret on rhythm guitars and Louis Vola on bass. This group was widely known as the 'Quintette du Hot Club de France". Nevertheless, with the exception of Django, none of them is heard on the present CD"--Liner notes.
